Dear Silvia and Gonzalez,
We are writing to let you know that we have written to the head of your health ministry thanking him for his support for the resolution supporting the Pan American Health Organization’s Strategy and Plan of Action on Epilepsy (see the attachedletter). In that letter we took the opportunity to introduce you to Minister Juan Luis Manzur MD and request that he work with you on the goals of theresolution.
As you know the Plan makes epilepsy a health care priority throughout the Americas and has a number of goals not the least of which is protecting the humanrights of people with epilepsy and assuring access to adequate and necessary health care.
As you have heard from Carlos Acevedo and Marco Medina, this process is in place for the next ten years. Although ten years appears to be a long time, we all know how quickly that time can pass, so we are urging you to take the initiative to begin the planning process. We realize that in Argentina, as in all thecountries in this hemisphere, the conditions as well as the solutions are unique, so there is no single approach to improving the conditions for people withepilepsy. The leadership of the ILAE and the IBE wish to reemphasize the request from Carlos and Marco to begin work on the plan now, with the goal tohave the national goals worked out by the Latin American Epilepsy Congress in Quito a year from now.
The development of the plan and making it realistic and achievable will require that the national chapters of the League and the member associations of theBureau work together with the health authorities. We urge you to make contact with the government agencies as soon as possible to begin the discussion onhow to improve the conditions for epilepsy in Argentina. Please let us know if you have difficulties making contact.
The League and the Bureau are excited by the extraordinary opportunity this commitment from the regional governments provides. We are ready to assistyou through the regional commissions and the Global Campaign to make the lives of people with epilepsy and their families better.
Thank you for your dedication and effort.
Mike and Nico
Mike Glynn, President of the IBE
Solomon L. Moshé, President of the ILAE
